TERRAPRENE NEOPRENE - QUESTIONS

  • What is Terraprene and what does it decompose into? Terraprene is a synthetic rubber with similar properties to performance
neoprene, but is produced from renewable feedstocks and is 100% biodegradable rubber. It uses limestone rock (calcium
carbonate) as the key ingredient to replace the main petrochemical inputs to make polychoroprene (neoprene). In landfill
conditions, it breaks down into methane and biomass, like other organic materials in landfill. Terraprene is not contenting micro-plastics.
How do traditional neoprene wetsuits degrade? Traditional neoprene is a synthetic rubber, made from petrochemicals, with
great performance in wetsuits. However, it is highly resistant to a broad range of environmental conditions, but it is non-
biodegradable and will last 100+ years in landfill, stiffening and then breaking down chemically into smaller particles over long time.
Under what conditions does the Terraprene material biodegrade, and how long does it take? - Correct heat, moisture and
pressure found in landfill conditions, as tested to ASTM 5511 Standard. The ASTM 5511 assessment determines the rate and
degree of anaerobic biodegradation of plastic materials in high-solids anaerobic conditions - a lab-proxy for best-case
conditions found in landfill. The Terraprene will biodegrade 30% in 522 days in landfill conditions, this is ensuring there is the
    correct heat, moisture and pressure.
How should I dispose of my Terraprene wetsuit at end of its life? When at end of life, dispose of it in landfill, where it will
decompose. Don't try to compost it at home as there won't be enough pressure in your garden compost bin.

SWIMSUIT USER GUIDE

  • Zone3 wetsuits can be used in water temperatures ranging from a minimum of 12 C°. International Triathlon Union (ITU) recommends that the maximum water temperature which the wetsuit can be used for racing is 22 C° so use of the wetsuit above this temperature is at the user's risk. Please note that suitability of the wetsuit may vary by 5C° to 10C° based on the users weight, activity and the air temperature.
  • Zone3 wetsuits are not for use in extreme atmospheric conditions. Cold shock, hypothermia or death in severe cases may occur with or without the use of a wetsuit. Wetsuits are including synthetic made materials which may cause allergic reactions in certain persons.
  • Zone3 wetsuits are designed for surface swimming - these are not compatible with other watersports.
  • When fitting this wetsuit make sure all closures are correctly fastened and all limbs are sufficiently free to permit safe watersport participation, including the ability to swim. Breathing must not be restricted in any way. Zone3 makes wetsuits for both men and women and we recommend using our size charts to decide what is the best size for you - contact with the dealer to ensure that you have correct size for your body shape.
  • Prior to and after every use make a comprehensive inspection of the wetsuit, if you find any failures or damage to materials, seams or closures please contact your local Zone3 dealer for advice. Do not make major repairs yourself as this can void your warranty.
  • Zone3 wetsuits have an unlimited shelf life and a limited 1-year warranty, from the original date of purchase, on all workmanship and materials. Store and transport use a wide hanger out of direct sunlight. Wash or rinse with cold water after every use and use shampoo to prolong the life of the neoprene.
  • When your wetsuit has reached the end of its useful life, please dispose of it responsibly in the normal fashion or recycle it where possible.
